Since August 2025, in collaboration with Vento di Terra and its partners in Gaza, ``Una Terra in Comune´´ has regularly distributed food parcels to between 22 and 82 families. These families include those we support in Deir Al Balah and many others in Gaza City.

Who designed the programme?
Mohammed, a Vento di Terra operator, is responsible for planning and implementing the distribution programme. He chose the items to be included in the standard food parcel distributed to families in line with international humanitarian and nutritional standards.
Mohammed designed a standard parcel for a family of three, balancing nutritional needs with cost sustainability in order to reach as many vulnerable families as possible.
As bread is the staple food in Gaza, flour is the central element of the standard parcel designed by Mohammed. For example, one kilogram of flour can produce up to 12-14 medium-sized loaves of bread. A package containing 20 kg of flour can be used to make approximately 240-280 loaves, providing an average of 8-9 loaves per day for a family of three for one month. This amount is in line with international humanitarian standards for caloric requirements in emergency situations. In addition to flour, the package included staple foods such as rice, pasta and other essential products, contributing to dietary diversification and aiming to meet daily caloric and nutritional needs.
Field assessments and feedback were essential to the design process. After the first distribution cycle, Mohammed listened to the opinions of beneficiary families and the staff involved, assessing the effectiveness of the parcels and the distribution method. Based on this information, he made the necessary changes to subsequent cycles, ensuring that the standard parcel was more responsive to the needs of families and took into account market availability and price variations.
Where did you get the food from?
Mohammed has adopted a transparent and pre-planned procurement process for purchasing all food products included in the parcels. This method has been implemented to ensure accountability, quality and efficient use of economic resources.
Mohammed purchases food products from pre-selected and verified suppliers in Gaza. Working with local partners, all of which are grassroots organisations, he maintains an up-to-date database of suppliers and obtains at least three different quotes for each food distribution. This approach ensures competitive prices while ensuring that suppliers receive fair compensation.
Mohammed also coordinates with other organisations to prevent large-scale supply overlaps and only purchases when prices are affordable, thus avoiding incentivising market price increases/contributing to price inflation caused by the war and the blockade of humanitarian aid.
How do you assemble the parcels?
Given the situation, safety measures are a top priority during procurement, packaging and distribution. Mohammed adopts various strategies to protect staff, volunteers and suppliers, including: 1) using multiple distribution points in different areas to avoid drawing attention to the source of the distributions; 2) using mobile delivery vehicles instead of stationary distribution centres to prevent large gatherings; and 3) using an encrypted messaging system with coded instructions and pre-set times, which ensures that distributions are carried out discreetly, only to the correct beneficiaries, avoiding crowds forming at distribution points.
Who are the other families who benefit from the programme
Mohammed selects the other families who benefit from the food programme from waiting lists he and his local partners hold. These waiting lists prioritize households with higher vulnerability, such as: 1) families headed by widows or women; 2) Families with a larger number of dependents; and 3) households facing acute socio-economic hardship.
